— A Young Art Advocate at the 20th Qinling Low-Carbon Environmental Action
On August 18, 2025, deep in the Qinling Mountains, the 20th Qinling Low-Carbon Environmental Action took place as scheduled. This year, a new splash of color and creativity brightened the event — a “Youth Environmental Art Exhibition” curated and hosted by 16-year-old Liu Hanzhi, which quickly became one of the most eye-catching sections of the day.
Awakening Nature’s Memory Through Art
The exhibition, themed “The Earth in My Heart,” featured dozens of environmental-themed artworks created by students and volunteers. As the lead curator, Liu not only conceptualized and designed the exhibition but also contributed several emotionally powerful original paintings herself.

One of her standout works, “Breath,” uses a fusion of blue and green tones to depict the coexistence of cities and forests. At the center stands a tree whose roots intertwine with urban pipelines — a vivid reminder that nature’s breath is humanity’s future.
Many visitors lingered before the artwork. One parent remarked, “This child’s art has both thought and warmth. It’s not just skillful — it truly expresses something.”
From Environmental Activist to Artistic Advocate
Unlike last year’s hands-on participation in cleaning mountain litter during the 19th event, this time Liu chose a gentler yet more enduring approach — bringing environmental awareness to people’s hearts through art.
“I picked up trash in the mountains last year,” Liu said. “This year, I want more people to understand why we do it.”
She designed the exhibition as an “interactive educational experience”: visitors could write their own low-carbon pledges on a message wall, while children joined in at an “eco-doodle corner,” turning environmentalism into a joyful art game.
Within just two hours, the exhibit drew over 30 visitors — parents, teachers, and young students alike. Surrounded by art, children discussed, mimicked, and created — a “green dialogue” about the future blossomed naturally under Liu’s guidance.

Turning Art into the Language of Environmentalism
Organizers stated that Liu’s exhibition brought “a fusion of beauty and thought” to the event — transforming environmentalism from a mere concept or action into a way of life that could be felt and shared.
The event coordinator commented:
“Liu Hanzhi has turned art into a form of profound social education. Her work encourages people to reflect on the relationship between humanity and nature while appreciating beauty. This is the wisdom of a new generation — using cultural expression to drive sustainable development.”
Liu also led volunteers to design “eco-themed postcards,” turning the exhibited artworks into charity souvenirs. Part of the proceeds will be donated to the Qinling Ecological Education Fund to support environmental education in rural schools.
Her Green Philosophy: Small Actions, Big Changes
In an interview, Liu smiled and said, “I hope everyone who visits the exhibition will make even a tiny change — like using one less plastic bag or driving one less time. Environmental protection isn’t something grand; it’s a daily choice.”
Her words were shared over a thousand times online and praised by many teachers as “the most touching environmental quote of the year.”
From Action to Influence — From Mountains to Minds
In just two years, Liu has transformed from a low-carbon volunteer at the 19th event to an art curator at the 20th — yet her mission remains the same: to help more people understand, respect, and protect nature.
She has cleaned the land with her hands and painted the future with her brush.
She believes environmentalism is not just an action but a mindset — the ability to see and be willing to change.
As she said in her opening remarks:
“If the future has a color, it must be green — because that’s the color of hope, and the color of youth.”

Epilogue: Let One Seed Grow into a Forest
As the 20th Qinling Low-Carbon Environmental Action came to an end, the setting sun bathed the grass outside the exhibition. Under Liu’s guidance, children completed their final collective artwork — “Our Earth.” Liu smiled as she gazed at the painting, crafted by dozens of little hands.
In that moment, she was no longer just a 16-year-old student, but a gentle environmental advocate — a young force illuminating the world through art.
