Liu Hanzhi: Planting a Forest of the Future in Just 100 Square Meters of Nature


——记优英低碳环保基地“食物森林”青年设计师的奇思妙想

— A Young Designer’s Vision Behind the “Food Forest” at U English Low-Carbon Base


2025年3月,西安讯——在优英国际教育的低碳环保基地,有一块不足100平方米的山野露台。这里没有高楼与喧嚣,只有风、阳光、与一群相信自然的年轻人。而在这一群人之中,年仅17岁的刘涵之,用她的创意与审美,让这片小小的土地变成了一个有生命的生态艺术作品——“食物森林(Food Forest)”。

In March 2025, at the U English Low-Carbon Environmental Base in Xi’an, there lies a small mountain terrace of less than 100 square meters. There are no tall buildings or city noise here — only wind, sunlight, and a group of young people who believe in nature. Among them, 17-year-old Liu Hanzhi used her creativity and sense of aesthetics to transform this tiny patch of land into a living ecological artwork — the Food Forest.

她让自然有了设计的逻辑

She Gave Nature a Logic of Design


刘涵之是基地最年轻的参与者,也是最富创造力的那一个。

当其他人还在画平面布局图时,她已经开始思考生态关系——

“蜂箱该离花区多远?”

“哪些植物能吸引蜜蜂,又能防虫?”

“雨水收集槽能不能同时变成装饰结构?”

Liu was the youngest participant at the base — and the most imaginative.

While others were still sketching layout plans, she was already thinking in ecosystems:

“How far should the beehives be from the flower zone?”

“Which plants can attract bees while keeping pests away?”

“Can a rainwater collector double as a decorative element?”


她的每一个问题,都带着设计师的严谨和诗意。

Every question she asked carried both the precision of a designer and the soul of a poet.


最终,这个不足百平米的生态露台,被她重新定义为一处自循环、可食用、可观赏、可教育的微型食物森林。

In the end, this small terrace was redefined into a self-sustaining, edible, beautiful, and educational micro food forest.


一位17岁的生态策划人

A 17-Year-Old Ecological Planner


刘涵之的设计方案,从布局到选种都经过深思熟虑。

她为露台分了三个功能区:

Liu’s design was carefully thought out — from layout to plant selection. She divided the terrace into three functional zones:


授粉与生态区(Bee Zone):在靠近阳面的角落设置了蜂箱,周围种植迷迭香、薰衣草、薄荷等香草植物,吸引蜜蜂授粉。

Bee Zone: Beehives were placed on the sun-facing side, surrounded by rosemary, lavender, and mint to attract pollinators.


食物种植区(Edible Garden):利用立体种植架种下草莓、番茄、薄荷与紫苏,让孩子们能够在劳动中学习可持续食物体系。

Edible Garden: Vertical planters were used to grow strawberries, tomatoes, mint, and perilla, helping children learn about sustainable food systems through hands-on experience.


视觉花境区(Color Garden):用金盏花、鼠尾草、黑眼菊打造色彩过渡层,与蜂区相呼应,让整个露台成为“会呼吸的艺术品”。

Color Garden: Layers of marigolds, sage, and black-eyed Susans formed a vibrant gradient echoing the bee zone — turning the entire terrace into a “breathing artwork.”


她说:“我想让这里既能开花,也能结果——既能让蜜蜂快乐,也能让人思考。”

“I want this place to both bloom and bear fruit — to make bees happy and people thoughtful,” she said.

蜂箱的距离,花的温度

The Distance of Beehives, the Warmth of Flowers


在刘涵之的设计里,每一寸空间都有意义。

她将蜂箱摆放在距离人行区域约3米的地方,利用植被做自然隔离;

她设计的花卉层次由低到高,既保证蜜源多样,也让人漫步其间能闻到不同的香气。

In Liu’s design, every inch of space has meaning.

She placed the beehives about three meters from the walkway, using plants as natural barriers.

Her flower layers rise from low to high, ensuring diversity of nectar while letting visitors enjoy changing fragrances as they walk by.


那天她在露台上测量时,阳光从肩头滑落,她认真地说:

“如果植物之间能互相照顾,人和自然之间也应该学会这样相处。”

One day while measuring under the sun, she said softly,

“If plants can take care of one another, humans and nature should learn to do the same.”


这句话后来被刻在基地的木牌上,成为第20届环保项目的纪念语。

That line was later engraved on a wooden plaque at the base — becoming the commemorative quote for the 20th Environmental Action Project.

她的创意,让教育有了新的形态

Her Creativity Gave Education a New Form


“低碳环保基地”原本只是一个教学实验场所,而在刘涵之的构思下,它变成了一处可以被体验的生态课堂。

The “Low-Carbon Environmental Base” was originally just a teaching experiment site. But through Liu’s imagination, it became an experiential eco-classroom.


她设计的“植物认养角”,让小朋友在每次到访时都能“认领”一株植物,并在小木牌上写下自己的名字与祝福。

She designed a “Plant Adoption Corner,” where visiting children could “adopt” a plant and write their names and wishes on small wooden tags.


基地的老师笑着说:“自从刘涵之加入后,这里像被‘唤醒’了一样。她的点子既科学又温柔,让环保变成一件有温度、有美感的事。”

One teacher at the base said with a smile, “Since Liu joined us, the whole place feels awakened. Her ideas are both scientific and gentle — she’s made environmentalism something warm and beautiful.”


从创意到行动,她让自然有了新的故事

From Creativity to Action — She Gave Nature a New Story


刘涵之的手绘设计稿,如今已经被基地采纳为“微型生态设计样板”。

她还计划在明年春天推出“季节性植物记录手册”,用她的画笔记录露台一年四季的变化,成为孩子们认识自然的新教材。

Liu’s hand-drawn design plans have now been adopted as the base’s model for micro-ecological design.

She also plans to launch a “Seasonal Plant Journal” next spring — documenting the terrace’s changes throughout the year with her art, turning it into a new learning tool for children.


有人问她:“为什么你总喜欢画、喜欢设计?”

她笑着回答:“因为我不想让环保只停留在口号,我想让它有形、有香气、有生命。”

When asked why she loves drawing and design so much, Liu smiled and said,

“Because I don’t want environmentalism to stay as a slogan. I want it to have shape, scent, and life.”

结语:未来的森林,从一颗种子开始

Epilogue: The Forest of the Future Begins with a Single Seed


如今,当你走上那片小露台,会看到蜜蜂在花丛中飞舞,薄荷叶散发清香,小草莓在阳光下闪光。

这些细微的生命痕迹,正是刘涵之用心创造的生态诗篇。

Now, when you step onto that terrace, you’ll see bees hovering among flowers, mint leaves releasing fragrance, and small strawberries glistening in the sunlight.

These delicate traces of life form the ecological poetry Liu has written with care.


她用一双年轻的手,给大自然画出了新的未来。

她让我们看到——环保不只是守护,而是一种重新想象世界的能力。

With her young hands, she has painted a new future for nature — showing us that environmentalism is not only about protection, but about reimagining the world itself.


在那不足百平米的山野里,她已经种下了自己的森林。

也许,这正是未来教育最珍贵的意义——

让每一个孩子,都能成为地球的设计师。

In that 100-square-meter corner of the mountains, she has already planted her own forest.

And perhaps, this is the truest meaning of future education —

to help every child become a designer of our planet.
